SF Thrift Guide: Marina District & Russian Hill

Hot take: I love shopping in the Marina District. While many SF locals might think I'm crazy for that statement, I've found some of the most unique vintage and consignment stores in this neighborhood. The Marina District and Russian Hill border each other, making it the perfect area for a full day of shopping.

While this guide may not hold the most inexpensive thrift stores, it's definitely a fun experience to window shop and browse all the designer resale. You probably won't find the steal of the century at these stores, but if you look hard enough, you may find a one-of-a-kind piece you love.

Indigo Vintage

Located in the heart of the Marina District on Chestnut Street, Indigo Vintage is the perfect place to begin your shopping day. It's tucked between cute cafés and small jewelry stores, and sits across from a delicious candy shop. The store has a great selection of both men's and women's clothing, shoes, and bags. Indigo also has a small section of designer handbags, humbly hanging in the corner of the store. Prices can range, though they're on the more expensive side — especially for shoes and purses.

Harper 67

Harper 67 is eclectic, colorful, and bursting at the seams with brightly patterned clothing. It's home to some of the most unique pieces I've ever found at a vintage store, and the shoe selection is no joke. From bright red pumps to patterned flats to bejeweled stilettos, if you're looking for your next pair of standout shoes, Harper 67 needs to be on your list. The only downside of this amazing vintage spot is the price tag, with many pieces exceeding $200.

Closet 1951

Closet 1951 is a vintage consignment store that could be described in three words: classy, cool, and not cheap. From a large selection of Chanel tweed jackets to Chloé flats to every Valentino dress in between, Closet 1951 has curated an upscale consignment experience. The store is located just a few minutes from Chestnut Street, nestled next to other cute boutiques.

Moody Goose Vintage

Moody Goose Vintage is one of my favorite vintage stores in San Francisco. Their prices are moderate, and the interior design reflects Moody Goose's joyful, creative spirit. You probably won't find a $2 vintage steal, but you will definitely leave with a free photobooth photo from the little camera that captures customers and their friends. Make sure to check out their jewelry collection too.

Warren Auction & Consignment

While Warren isn't your typical SF vintage spot, it has a small but mighty consignment section and antique home goods that would make the perfect souvenir or birthday present. It also has one of the largest vintage jewelry sections I've seen, packed to the brim with brightly colored statement necklaces, sparkly brooches, and chunky rings. If you're in the area, give Warren a chance to win you over!

Relove is one of the most aesthetic vintage stores I've visited in SF. The selection is highly curated and feels more like an upscale boutique than your typical eclectic thrift store. If you're looking for classic pieces that will be in your closet for life, give Relove a visit.

Cris Consignment

Cris Consignment is home to the most adorable corgi, who helps welcome each customer. Beyond the friendly staff, this consignment shop has a great mix of classic pieces and unique standouts that will brighten up your closet. The store has a wide selection, and probably the most vintage Chanel flats I've ever seen in one place. Browsing here, I couldn't help wondering what the closets of the people consigning their clothes must look like.
